Starla came into the Alive at Last spring small group mid-way through the semester. Before finding safety she came face to face with death being trafficked and prostituted. New to the small group, she was very quiet and preferred to just observe. Although in-person activity was difficult for Starla due to her years of trauma from being sex-trafficked, she became very active in the private Alive at Last online community for survivors. She felt safe in our online community and rediscovered her love for learning by watching Alive at Last training videos. In April she earned a gift card which was an Alive at Last incentive for the most engaged members.
Starla became a Christ-follower within her first month of attending our small group. At the final Alive at Last small group session Starla courageously shared how she felt dead and empty for so long.
Now she feels alive and free.
Ultimately, Starla wants to be reunited with her children. When we asked about her long term goals, she wants to live on her own and get her driver’s license and a car.
