How would you feel if you had four children and felt like you had no hope?

Longing to escape the pain in her life Amy turned to drugs. The narcotics that promised escape only complicated her situation leading to estrangement from family. She began trading her sexuality for the next high and a place to stay for the night.

After Amy hit rock bottom, two of her children were taken from her and placed with a family member. The other two were placed in the foster care system. Amy had a history of sexual trauma.

In a moment of clarity Amy knew the most important thing in her life were her four children. She was desperate for change and applied to live at The Salvation Army. It was there she heard about Alive at Last.

As Amy walked into the Alive at Last small group and heard how she could heal from her trauma, she felt hope rising. She committed to attend for twelve weeks facing the hard fact that commitment had not been part of her recent history.

Today Amy lives with two of her children. She has been working for ten months at a fast food restaurant. She is very proud to be earning her own living without any welfare assistance. “I would not be where I am today without Angel (Alive at Last volunteer) who showed me that Jesus could heal my hurts and help me rebuild my life.”

Amy’s future is bright as she is on track to regain custody of her two younger children. Her Alive at Last Mentor sees the change in her as a testimony to the power of God at work through Christian friendship and unconditional love.
