July 4th is a time to celebrate our freedom as a nation. Freedom is the power to act, speak or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. True freedom comes from within.
Trenda sought safety from her trafficker at a Dallas safe house. With all her basic needs met and medical care, in a few months she felt like a different person with a new sense of mental clarity she hadn’t known in years.
However, her life change was short lived. When she transitioned out of the shelter, there was no new support for her new way of life. Trenda was longer addicted to cocaine, but she turned to alcohol to cope with the horrific memories that dogged her each day. Even though she was free to make her own decisions, she was locked in a prison of her own thoughts and emotions.
While working as a bartender, her boss offered her free drinks if she would dance and work as a stripper. She agreed. The nightmare of sexual exploitation began all over again. Within months Trenda was desperate, suicidal and searching,
Trenda now sees how it was God who led her to a faith-based safe-house. From there she eventually connected with Alive at Last and was matched with a mentor.
This time around things were different when Trenda transitioned out of the safe-house. This time she had an Alive at Last mentor and a safe community where she could connect and have ongoing support and resources.
Today Trenda is living free from the inside out. She is an Alive at Last mentor and shares her story of freedom with other survivors.
Through small group support and mentorship, Alive at Last empowers women like Trenda to live and stay free for a lifetime.
Thank you for helping Alive at Last offer lasting freedom to trafficked and exploited women.
